CARE Suffolk
Community Alliance for a Rural Environment
Protecting Suffolk’s Countryside from Inappropriate Development
CARE Suffolk CIC is a community-led alliance fighting to preserve our rural landscape, wildlife, and heritage from large-scale industrial projects—like intrusive solar farms—that threaten our environment and way of life.
🌿 Who We Are
We are a group of residents – spanning villages of Flowton, Burstall, Bramford Tye, Bramford, Somersham, and Elmsett – who all care about this local rural environment and lifestyle.
Unlike commercial developers, we are a not-for-profit community interest group run by volunteers. This means that every penny raised goes towards:
🔹 Challenging inappropriate planning applications
🔹 Promoting sustainable, locally supported policies
🔹 Sharing our knowledge with other groups and the public
We believe that by keeping the countryside as countryside, and by maintaining the tranquil and beautiful public walks that surround these villages, that we can all enjoy the physical and mental health benefits that come with being in such a special and valuable landscape.
⚡ The Threat: Industrial Solar Farms in Suffolk
Massive solar developments are being pushed onto our countryside under the guise of ‘green energy’—but the reality is:
🔸 Loss of productive farmland & soil degradation
🔸 Wildlife habitat destruction (hedgerows, ancient woodlands, species displacement)
🔸 No local benefit—profits go to multinational corporations, not Suffolk communities
🛡️ How We Fight Back
✅ Legal & Planning Challenges – Responding to planning applications to ensure officials have the relevant information that developers sometimes omit
✅ Community Mobilization – Petitions, rallies, and public consultations
✅ Media & Political Pressure – Exposing misleading “greenwashing” claims
✅ Real Alternatives – Advocating for rooftop solar, brownfield sites & genuine renewables
